So I was just finishing off my art bid for two more broodmares when my bad luck struck: the computer froze, the program crashed and the WHOLE file was deleted. I couldn't even find an autosaved version.

So now I'll just submit some literature as a bid for Chalcedony whom I just couldn't resist. Rachel just 'accidentally' ends up bidding on another horse XD

Chalcedony by Geronimo24

Rachel blinked hard as white light shone at her from her phone. She had been waiting for the Triple Birch Auction results all afternoon, now it was almost 11. She lay sprawled across the hotel bad, hitting the refresh page again and again and again, but with no luck as the results didn’t show up on the Triple Birch Farms website.

“I wish they would hurry up and post the results!” she sneered, throwing her phone onto the other side of the bed. Apparently she had thrown it too violently and it sprung off the mattress and onto the hard floor.

“Crap…” was all Rachel could say before Oliver appeared at the door.

“Rachel would you calm down” he shook his head and sat down next to her, “You should get some sleep, you were up at 3am this morning” he pointed out to the agitated woman.

“If only they would post the results then I would gladly go to sleep” she sighed, thinking back to the spectacular thoroughbreds she had seen earlier that day.

“You know, if any horses didn’t get sold them they are going to post that first. Not the results.” Oliver said looking Rachel in the eyes.

“Wait what, so then we have to wait even longer?? Oh my gosh why do I have to be so impatient?” she rolled across the bed and grabbed her phone off the floor. Then she turned it on, checking if it had broken.

“Oliver” she said with an annoyed tone “They didn’t sell all the horses after all. There’s still quite a few left actually…” Rachel trailed off as she scrolled through the remaining horses. “Mainly broodmares” she remarked.

“Let me see” Oliver said while reaching out for the phone. “Wow, I’d say that all the best broodmares didn’t get bid on for some reason.”

“Well why didn’t we bid on them?” Rachel demanded.

“Because I thought they would get a lot of interest and that our lousy budget could never buy them” he retorted and flopped with his back onto the bed. “Besides, we already bid on a broodmare and I would be more than happy to go home with just her”.

“Hey remember that Storm Cat mare, the dark one?” Rachel asked.

Oliver nodded, already knowing what Rachel was going to ask: can we bid on her?

“She hasn’t been claimed yet so…can we bid on her?” she asked with a foolish smile.

There is it Oliver thought to himself and got to his feet. “Sure, I’d love to bid on her” he smiled.

“Really?” Rachel’s eyes widened and a wide smile across her face.

But she was answered with a harsh “No” from Oliver. “I was joking Rachel, we don’t have the money.”

“Actually” she smiled “We have quite a bit left over from the previous auction. Those two didn’t cost quite as much as we thought they would.”

“Rachel, if memory serves me right that mare isn’t even 10 years old. We’d need an older mare with more experience” he sighed.

“Ok” Rachel replied scrolling through her phone “What about this one?”

She held up her phone and Oliver studied an image of a dark mare. Like the other mare Rachel had mentioned, this one was just as small but she had presence. She wasn't some small, skinny broodmare. Oh no, Oliver could tell that she must have been a reckon-able force if she had ever raced. 'Chalcedony' was written under the image, '2002 Storm Bird x Onyx mare'. That was an age he was interested in for a broodmare, he preferred the older mares who had more foaling experience.

"Very nice horse. She seems just fine Rachel, let's bid on her" he said sarcastically. "Well i'm going back to my room, see you tomorrow" he waved at her and made his way across the room. But there was no response from Rachel and as he looked across his shoulder he her see her typing something on her phone.

'Wait Rachel... you didn't actually bid on her right?" he stopped dead in his tracks, "You know I was joking."

The girl looked up at him grinning. Suddenly her smile vanished and she had a shocked expression on her face. "You were...?I just umm well, I just bid on her..." she whispered.

"This can't be happening" Oliver leaned against the wall. "No, no, no..."

"I'm sorry Oliver... Rachel said cringing as he glared at her.

“You know what…I’m going to sleep let’s sort this out in the morning” he sighed and shut the door behind him, leaving Rachel with a feeling of guilt that didn’t leave until morning.
